Improving recruitment will be a key part of the work sporting director Stuart Webber will carry out in the coming months at Norwich City.

It is an issue which has plagued the Canaries in recent seasons, struggling to shift unwanted players on big wages in order to refresh a stagnating squad.

City's new chief intends to change that though, after enjoying several successes in the transfer market during his time with Huddersfield Town.

'Maybe this season is a combination of a few seasons, as an outsider looking in and it's very difficult to judge as an outsider because you don't know what's gone on,' the 33-year-old said.

'I don't know what's gone on within the walls at the stadium or the training ground, and I'd never try and guess or be disrespectful of that because sometimes things happen behind closed doors which people don't know about and you can never maybe talk about.

'I think the point that this football club has got to now is probably the result of three or four bad transfer windows and I think we've reached a tipping point and have got to turn that around.

'That's as a complete outsider, no one has said that to me and that's just an opinion formed on me following every club. It's my job to know what other clubs do because Norwich City were a competitor, and that's probably what I'd put it down to.'

With a new head coach not set to arrive until the end of the season, Webber is asking for Canaries fans to remain patient though.

'I don't think I can affect much on the pitch in the next four or five weeks, unless the transfer window magically opens and let's just be clear here, when the head coach comes in that's his remit, the team and training, I don't get involved in that,' the Welshman continued.

'So I don't think I can affect it in the short term, I don't have a magic wand unfortunately and unfortunately the new head coach also isn't going to have a magic wand and this is going to take a little bit of time.

'What we have got though is there is some good pieces in place, there is some good infrastructure here off the pitch, there is some good players here, let's not kid ourselves I'm sure in the summer we're going to have some offers for some of our players and that normally means they're pretty good.'
