Neil Adams will box clever to avoid flogging his Norwich City squad in the pursuit of Championship promotion.

The Canaries face a gruelling 46-game slog back in the second tier after three seasons in the Premier League, and Adams realises that heavy workload may place a huge strain on his key men.

Adams made 11 changes for the midweek Capital One Cup tie at Shrewsbury and is expected to shuffle his pack again for Saturday's Championship trip to Blackpool.

'We're at a point in the season, approaching nine or 10 games in, when we have to take stock and look at the number of minutes they have played,' he said. 'The training here is at a very high intensity. You could take it easy Monday to Friday, I suppose, and get the players through the games easier but I don't think they would be at it in the manner I want them to be.

'The successful teams I played in trained at high intensity and then took that into matches. It's not time to start changing the team in a big way, but you may have to take one or two out, not because they aren't playing well, but because they need a breather.

'One or two were just saying they were starting to feel it after the Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday and that is only natural. It's the 21st century and you could argue players should play every day but the number of games can take a heavy toll.'
