Norwich City transfer rumours: Baggies interested in Pinto

Norwich City right-back Ivo Pinto has been suggested as a possible loan option for West Brom as their pursuit of Rangers' James Tavernier looks to have stalled.
The Championship new boys, who head to Carrow Road on Saturday, reportedly had a £3million bid rejected for 27-year-old Tavernier.
That has brought Pinto into the Baggies’ thinking according to the Daily Mail’s Midlands football correspondent Laurie Whitwell, who is quoted in the newspaper’s transfer deadline day blog as saying: “West Brom are at their spending limit but do want to bring in a defender for that flank.
“Norwich’s Ivo Pinto presents a potential alternative but that would probably be a loan so could be done any time before August 31.”
Pinto, 28, is in the final year of his contract with the Canaries and only returned to full training last week after missing all of pre-season with a hamstring issue.
The Portuguese full-back has made 89 appearances for City since signing from Dinamo Zagreb in a deal reportedly worth around £2.5m in January 2016.
He captained Daniel Farke’s team for much of last season but missed two months after tweaking his knee when getting out of his car in January and then found Southampton loanee Harrison Reed chosen ahead of him during the latter stages of the campaign.
Pinto has since seen Grant Hanley named captain and was reportedly on the radar of German club Dusseldorf earlier this summer.
The report comes on the final day of the summer transfer window for permanent transfers, ahead of a 5pm deadline, but EFL clubs can still sell players to non-English clubs as well as sign free transfers or loans until the end of August.
Press Association Sport’s Midlands football writer, Nick Mashiter, reports that Norwich would be willing to listen to offers for midfielder Mario Vrancic while adding that Nelson Oliveira, Russell Martin, Matt Jarvis and Michael McGovern are all free to go.
If Pinto was to leave City this month it would leave new signings Ben Marshall and Felix Passlack as Farke’s right-back options, with academy product Max Aarons waiting in the wings and impressing during pre-season.
