Nathan Redmond has made it clear he is committed to staying with Norwich City and helping the club back to the Premier League – after taking advice from his mum.

The young winger re-emphasised his top-level potential on Monday night when he scored a hat-trick for England Under-21s in a European Championship qualifier against Wales.

After City's relegation from the Premier League, that performance could well have put Redmond back in the Premier League shop window.

However the 20-year-old, who joined the Canaries from Birmingham City for a reported £3.2million last summer, has eased the fears of City fans who are worried he will be leaving.

That comes after a chat with his mum, Michelle, who Redmond has previously revealed had to work two jobs to support him and his brother while they were growing up in Birmingham.

'I signed a four-year contract when I joined so I am committed, and my future is in the club's hands,' Redmond said.

'I've had chats with my family and my mum, and my focus is solely on putting in good performances for Norwich that hopefully mean we will get back up at the end of next season.

'Of course the Premier League is the best in the world, and you want to be there, but you have to accept that you get downs in football and you have to deal with them.

'I am just looking to put in some good performances for England now, and hopefully I can continue that form in pre-season and hit the ground running.'

Redmond was part of a 19-man squad which flew out to France yesterday to take part in the annual Toulon Tournament.

They face an initial four group games, starting tomorrow night when they face Qatar at the Stade Lagrange in Toulon.

Then next week the Young Lions are set to take on Brazil in St Raphael on Monday, South Korea in Aubagne on Wednesday and Colombia on Friday, back in Toulon.

Redmond, who took his Under-21s record to five goals in 10 games with his hat-trick in Swansea on Monday night, is hoping to build on his early summer impact – something the youngster celebrated by getting straight on the phone to his mum.

'It was a proud moment, but it didn't quite sink in until I gave here a call and she was so delighted for me,' Redmond added, speaking to the Daily Star.

'I was just as glad, though, to be part of such a good team performance.

'It's my first senior hat-trick, and it is an amazing feeling, and hopefully the first of many more as I move forward in my career.'
