Nathan Redmond believes international involvement can help him make a Premier League impact.

The 19-year-old, who joined the Canaries from Birmingham in the summer, was in eye-catching form as he scored the first in England Under-21's 6-0 hammering of Scotland on Tuesday night.

'It is nice to get man of the match and score goals for your country,' said Redmond. 'I always had to get consistency in my game. I am still only 19 and at Birmingham I was in and out, but from January I got a few games under my belt. It is about maturity and learning to improve.

'The Premier League is a new challenge but I never think about that. I enjoy playing football – club, country or training ground. If I go through a bad patch then fair enough, but I will try to keep playing well.

'I was fortunate enough to get the chance at Birmingham as we did not have many players. The gaffer had belief in me and I contributed to some goals and vital wins. I got some consistency and that has helped.

'I enjoy playing with all the lads at Norwich. It is a Premier League club looking to go higher and if I can be part of that, so be it.'

After enduring a horrible summer European Championships, senior England boss Roy Hodgson has spent time with his younger charges.

'The senior lads were there as well, so we got to watch them train,' added Redmond. 'He has the same ethos with us and it has been interesting working with him and the lads have been enthusiastic on the training field.

'This is a completely different batch of players. There are only three or four left from the summer but we got back to basics. We had to clear Israel out of our heads and get a good result.

'We had been working with him (Hodgson) for a few days and the lads were enthusiastic, as you saw today. Even at 4-0 up we were still wanting to get the ball.

'Everyone was looking to impress and we have a big campaign ahead, and hopefully we will do a lot better than we did in the summer.

'He extended the (training) sessions. It was a case of him drilling things into us. As the session went on we were building it up and we ended up getting better at it. A few of the goals were from the training ground.'
