Norwich remain above the relegation zone, one point ahead of their conquerors on Saturday Sunderland. But the north-east side has a game in hand and head back home with the wind in their sails, having overcome an abject Norwich City.

A penalty from Fabio Borini in the 41st minute put Sunderland ahead. Jermaine Defoe then netted in the 53rd minute and Duncan Watmore scored in extra-time.

Alex Neil's men had little to offer in response.
