Matt Jarvis must write-off this season and come back stronger from his injury hell.

The former England international has suffered a fresh setback on his long road to recovery from knee surgery. Alan Irvine revealed on Friday Jarvis had damaged his hip after recovering from a hamstring injury to play only his second 90 minutes of the campaign in the recent Premier League International Cup semi-final defeat to Sunderland.

Matt has had another setback, he is not training,” he said. “I think it is his upper thigh, hip area. Matt is a situation where the biggest thing for him is to get himself fit before the end of the season to train. I have spoken to him and said if I was you I would train every day during the summer and make sure you are ready to have a good pre-season and kick on from there.

“He is in that horrible cycle where one long term injury ends up with being a whole host of smaller injuries. I feel for him. It is a real shame. I have seen it before with players out a long time and the best thing you can do is write the season off and get back to work. As we speak everyone else is available.”

Graham Dorrans (ankle) is not in contention for Fulham’s visit to Carrow Road but will be assessed over the Bank Holiday weekend ahead of the trip to Preston on Monday.

“He won’t make it (for Fulham),” said Irvine. “He trained with us earlier in the week but is still feeling it. It was still sore. He has had an injection that hopefully means he can train again over the weekend and he can be in contention for Preston. It is the joint area around the ankle.”
