Norwich City first team coach Mark Robson insists Neil Adams' coaching team should have no regrets over failing to pull off a Premier League great escape.

Adams had five games to try and avoid relegation following the departure of Chris Hughton but the Canaries came up short after picking up one point from a daunting run-in.

City failed to punish Fulham at Craven Cottage in Adams' first match in charge after dominating that game against another of their relegated rivals, but Robson pinpoints the 3-2 home defeat to title-challenging Liverpool as a potential turning point in the survival struggle.

The hosts' were 2-0 down inside 11 minutes to a rampant Reds' side after Raheem Sterling and Luis Suarez were on target until Gary Hooper reduced the arrears only for Sterling to strike again before Robert Snodgrass set up a thrilling finish.

'We did give it a real good go and it was a tough call for us in the situation we found ourselves in,' he said. 'We gave it our best shot and approached the challenge head on and to be honest, if you look at the Liverpool game at home if we had just started that a little better then we could have won that game.

'We had a couple of great chances to nick a draw late on but the application from the players in all five games was excellent. It was a real privilege to be involved and we have had that from them since they came back for pre-season as well.'
