Wayne Rooney faces a race against time to be fit for Manchester United's Premier League clash against Norwich City on Sunday at Carrow Road.

The England international has been ruled out of the Red Devils' Europa League tie against Ajax tomorrow with a virus that has prevented him from training so far this week.

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson is keeping his fingers crossed the striker will be fit for Sunday's trip to Norfolk.

'He's had a real bad throat,' said the United boss. 'He came in this morning for the first time and we're trying hard to get him ready for Sunday.'
