Manchester City have handed Angus Gunn a four-year contract extension.

The former Norwich City academy goalkeeper, the son of Canaries legend Bryan, impressed for the Premier League giants' elite development squad (EDS) last season.

The 19-year-old joined the big-spending club when his family moved to the north-west in 2011.

Gunn helped City's EDS, managed by former France and Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira, to win the inaugural Premier League International Cup and reach the quarter-finals of the Uefa Youth League.

The Norfolk-born keeper is one of three players nominated for the club's EDS Player of the Year award.

He has already been capped at under-16, U17 and U19 level by England and looks set to follow in the footsteps of his father in playing league football – standing at 6ft 5ins tall already.

Gunn now looks set to join City's first team on their pre-season tour of Australia, after taking to his Twitter account (@AngusGunn01) to say: 'Proud to have signed a new five year deal @MCFC hard works starts now. Looking forward to going down under.'

City were ordered to pay £250,000 to the Canaries in compensation by an independent tribunal in 2011 – with further add-ons due depening on the level of Gunn's progress in the game as a senior professional.
