James Maddison decided to join Leicester City after Foxes boss Claude Puel demonstrated how he would fit into the Premier League team's style.

The 21-year-old playmaker has joined Leicester from Norwich City in a deal worth up to £24million after a superb individual season saw him linked with almost every top-flight club, although Southampton were the only other club thought to have made a bid in the end.

His return of 15 goals and 11 assists from 49 games earned the Coventry City academy product England Under-21 recognition and a host of divisional awards, including being named in the Championship team of the season.

Canaries fans also voted him the club's player of the season and Maddison heads to the King Power Stadium after lifting the Barry Butler Memorial Trophy.

'I'm delighted. I'm really happy to be here,' City's record sale said after the expected deal was finally announced. 'I had a good chat with the manager about football and how he wants me to play, how he likes to play and I was sold.

'We talked about the type of player I am, how I'm going to fit into his style of play and everything sounded really promising. I haven't looked back since that phone call.

'Leicester just seems like the right fit for me. I've got a good feel about the Club and I can't ignore that, in my head and my heart. I felt like this was the right place for me to be, so I'm delighted and can't wait to get started.'

The surprise 2016 champions finished ninth in the Premier League under French boss Puel last year.

'James is a wonderful player who is one of the most exciting young talents in English football,' Puel told the Foxes' website.

'He made a big contribution to Norwich City last season and I'm delighted that he has decided to make the step up to the Premier League with Leicester City Football Club.

'He's a young player who can create things in the attacking third and will give us even more possibilities in the squad. Of course, he has good ability and also good potential to develop even more, which is exciting for the team and for the supporters.'

Reflecting on his excellent season with the Canaries, his first full campaign at Championship level, Maddison continued: 'I had a good return last year with 15 goals and eight assists (league) over the season.

'I am a player who plays in the number 10 role mainly and likes to get fans off their seat with assists, goals and create chances... I think that's what it's about.

'Especially playing in that midfield position, you've got to chip in with the goals and the assists because that's what you get judged on, end product, and I was pleased to go home with those stats.'

He also has some familiar face from the England youth ranks to welcome him to Leicester.

'I can't wait to meet all the lads. It will be great to come into training later this summer and getting to meet them all properly,' he added.

'I am good friends with Ben Chillwell, Demarai Gray and George Thomas, who know has been in the Under-23s, so I can't wait to meet up with the lads, get going and crack on.'
