It may have been used to send off a Norwich City player but Tim Krul admits a VAR decision felt easier to accept, knowing that the match referee had watched a replay to review the incident.

Paul Tierney became the first official to use the pitchside monitor in the Premier League, after being advised by his video assistant referee to review the yellow card he had shown to Ben Godfrey.

That was then upgraded to a red card, correctly, as the defender's heavy tackle on Callum Wilson saw Godfrey dismissed in the 78th minute of City's 1-0 win over Bournemouth at Carrow Road.

"Every footballer wants the referee, the man who feels the game, to make the decision, not somebody sat in a little room somewhere to get involved," said Canaries keeper Krul.

"The referee had a look at it, the slow-motion replays are never good, so that's the only shame about it, but he made the call and I'm pleased it didn't harm our result."

However, Krul got involved in some pushing and shoving with Bournemouth players while Tierney was watching the incident on the screen, and was booked.

"I looked over and saw 10 of them shouting, (Dan) Gosling saying 'he should be off, it's horrible', so I just told him to be quiet and it all kicked off," the Dutchman explained.

"It happens but I'm just pleased it didn't harm us because we would have been really down if they had managed to score a goal but 1-0, clean sheet, something great to build on."

That was a fourth yellow card of the campaign for Krul and while he would have to pick up another six in the next nine games to activate a two-game ban, that gives a glimpse into the keeper's will to win and determination to have an influence for his team.

"I want to stay up, that's the most important thing, and if I see something happening that I don't think is right, I will say it," he added.

"I got a couple for time wasting and that's the thing, when you are bottom of the league referees are going to pick up on it from minute 20, already starting on me that I need to hurry up.

"Sometimes you need to take one for the team and I've got five more (to use) now, so I need to be careful."
