Young Norwich City winger Josh Murphy is setting his sights on scoring his second senior goal before the end of this season.

Murphy burst onto the scene for City earlier this season by coming off the bench in the second half of the Capital One Cup third-round tie at Watford and scoring a debut goal.

He salvaged that tie, with City 2-0 down when he was introduced, with a long-range finish which inspired City to win 3-2 in extra-time thanks to two further goals from Gary Hooper.

The 19-year-old has gone on to make 10 further substitute appearances for City, as well as starting both legs of the FA Cup third-round loss to Fulham, and has come off the bench in both of Neil Adams' first two matches in charge.

The England Under-19 ace knows Adams very well as he was a key part of the City Under-18s team which won the FA Youth Cup under Adams' stewardship last term.

'I've been happy with my involvement recently,' Murphy told City's official website after scoring the only goal as the City Under-21s won 1-0 at Wolves on Tuesday night, his 11th goal in 13 Under-21 games this season.

'I've been with Neil ever since I was an under-11, so he knows exactly what I'm about and I know what he's about.

'Hopefully I can now kick on and get in the first team, and if I'm called upon I can try and get a goal like I did against Wolves.

'It's in our own hands. We're capable – we're good enough, we shouldn't be where we are but through circumstances that's where we are.

'We've got three big games, but there's no reason why we can't pick up points. I'm confident, and so are all the lads and staff.'

Murphy and his twin brother Jacob are from Downham Market and both signed professional terms through until the end of the 2014/15 season with the club in January 2013.

Now Josh is feeling the benefits of Adams stepping up to succeed Chris Hughton as first-team manager, and says he is enjoying it.

'It's weird because I'm used to calling him 'Neil', but I've been in training and I know that I've got to call him 'gaffer' now!' Murphy added.

'He's now the manager so I respect that. I'm delighted that he's there, and the way he's making us play football and the way he's handling the lads at the moment is excellent.

'People saw how well we played against Liverpool. We were unlucky not to get a result there and against Fulham too.'

Jacob, meanwhile, is out on loan at League Two club Southend United and scored his first senior goal last Friday.

He was handed his first start by the Shrimpers and repaid that faith by setting up the first goal of a 3-0 win against Rochdale, for Barry Corr, before adding the second himself.

Jacob, who made his only City appearance so far as a replacement for Josh in the home tie against Fulham in January, is on loan at Roots Hall until the end of the season.

He made seven appearances, starting twice, during a loan spell with Swindon earlier this year and has now added to that with five more appearance with Southend, starting the last two matches, including Monday's 1-0 home win against Accrington Stanley.

Southend assistant-manager Dave Penney praised Jacob's full debut against Rochdale last Friday.

'Jacob was terrific for an hour or so and caused them all kinds of problems with his pace,' Penney told the Basildon Echo.

'We've eased in him since he came to the club but he got his chance from the start here and he certainly took it.

'Not too many players would've passed the ball like he did for Barry's goal and then he also scored one of his own.

'I think we also saw he's lagging behind a bit with his fitness and that's why he had to come off.

'But that will improve the more he plays and we're certainly delighted with the impact he made to help us win this game.'
