Former Norwich City striker Jamie Cureton has signed for National League South side St Albans City, keeping his career going at the age of 41.

St Albans become the 16th English club of Cureton's career, in which he has scored almost 300 goals in over 800 matches in all competitions, having started out with the Canaries in the mid-1990s.

He joins the Hertfordshire club having been unable to prevent Dagenham and Redbridge dropping out of the Football League last season, scoring seven goals in 38 appearances in League Two.

That saw Bristol-born attacker start this season at step four of the non-league pyramid, playing for Farnborough in the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One Central.

Eight goals in the first two months of the season, including a hat-trick on his debut, saw Cureton earn a move up to the National League with Eastleigh.

Having played for Farnborough in the early stages of the FA Cup, Cureton was unable to feature in Eastleigh's run to the second round proper and followed manager Ronnie Moore out of the club at the start of this month after one goal in seven games, as Martin Allen left Barnet to join the ambitious Hampshire club.

The prolifoc striker played another game for Farnborough at the weekend, scoring just nine minutes into a 3-2 loss to Hanwell, but has now stepped back up to step two of non-league with St Albans.

Saints manager, Ian Allinson, said: 'Jamie has always been a goalscorer and when he became available I had no doubt in my mind that I wanted to bring him to Clarence Park and strengthen the squad as we go into a busy period.

'We have had to beat of competition from a number of different clubs to secure Jamie's signature, I would like to thank the owners for backing me with this deal.'

Cureton goes straight in to the squad to face Margate tomorrow, with St Albans second and nine points ahead of leaders Maidenhead, with a game in hand.
