Young Norwich City striker Jamar Loza has signed a new two-year contract with the Canaries.

The 20-year-old Jamaica international impressed as a substitute during City's final match of last season, a 2-0 defeat to Arsenal at Carrow Road, and looks likely to be involved with Neil Adams' first-team squad in the Championship next season.

'I'm over the moon that I'm signing a new two-year contract,' Loza said. 'This club has done so much for me, not just on the pitch but off the pitch too, they've helped me out a lot.

'It's going to be a busy season in the Championship, so hopefully I can play a few games, impress the boss and get into the team – that's the plan.'

The tricky attacker went out on loan three times last season. A brief spell in League One with Coventry City saw Loza make just one appearance as a substitute before heading home to Norfolk.

He then returned to League One in January with promotion hopefuls Leyton Orient, making his first senior start and two appearances as a substitute.

Loza then enjoyed a more successful spell with Southend United in League Two, starting and scoring on his debut. Five games later, playing alongside fellow City loan youngster Jacob Murphy, Loza was brought back to Carrow Road by Adams.

He was then brought on as a 58th-minute substitute against Arsenal and looked a lively prospect.

'It was a good season for me last year, going out on loan and doing well before playing against Arsenal and then playing for my country,' Loza added, speaking to www.canaries.co.uk.

'I've known Neil a long time, he was my manager at Under-18s level, and we've always had a good relationship so hopefully that will continue.'

City manager Neil Adams added: 'We're delighted with how well Jamar's first year as a professional went, especially his debut against Arsenal, so he fully deserves this new contract.

'He's a direct player who is lightning quick and can run with the ball, and he causes defenders a lot of problems.

'There will be more games this season so more opportunities to get in the team, and with me it doesn't matter how old the players are – the best players will play.'
