Young winger Jacob Murphy scored twice for Norwich City's under-21 side in a friendly victory against local rivals Ipswich Town this afternoon.

Murphy made his first senior appearance as a second-half substitute during City's 1-1 FA Cup third-round draw with Fulham at Carrow Road on Saturday.

The Downham Market 18-year-old celebrated by scoring both the goals in a 2-1 win against Ipswich at City's training ground in Colney.

Murphy, playing on the left, scored his first 10 minutes after half-time from a quick free-kick and wrapped up the win a minute from time when he converted a pass from Reece Hall-Johnson.

Midfielder Hall-Johnson and full-back Adel Gafaiti, who were also on the bench for the first team on Saturday but weren't handed their debuts by manager Chris Hughton, were also in action for the U21s.

The Tractor Boys had former Canaries loan striker Alan Lee and Ireland winger Stephen Hunt in their line-up but couldn't overcome City's youngsters, to the delight of under-21 manager Mark Robson

'It was a tough old game actually, a real ding dong. There were lots of tackles flying it, but it was a good exercise for the boys and I'm sure for their lads too,' Robson told the club's official website.

'Our last game was before Christmas, so with our game being called off this Friday, we were really pleased that Ipswich were able to bring a side down.'

Of Murphy's goals, Robson added: 'They were very good, but I'm sure he'll be the first to say he should have scored a couple more!

'I thought there were some good performances - I thought Carlton Morris was really good, and the full-backs were very good on the ball today too. We caused them lots of problems.'

The game was arranged because the Barclays Under-21 Premier League match due to be played against Everton at Carrow Road on Friday night has been cancelled and rearranged for a 7pm kick-off on Wednesday, February 26.
