Nathan Redmond is international class for Chris Hughton but the Norwich City boss sidestepped suggestions he should follow his lead and represent the Republic of Ireland in the future after his pivotal role in beating the Baggies.

Redmond triggered both the moves that ended with Gary Hooper and Leroy Fer sinking West Brom at the Hawthorns in a vibrant display. The 19-year-old has been a regular at youth level for England but is reportedly on a watch list drawn up by the Republic's new management duo, Martin O'Neill and Roy Keane, to recruit young talent with Irish ancestry. Redmond and former City loanee Kyle Naughton could both qualify for the Republic through family links and Hughton is convinced the wide midfielder will eventually make the transition to the full international stage if he maintains his upward trajectory at Norwich.

'I must admit the Irish link is something which is very new to me,' said Hughton. 'He has international potential but he has to realise that himself. He is doing everything right for that to be the case. What I can tell you about is his game. He is a 19 year old who trains really well and who has ability and what he has to work on is his end product when he gets in those areas, but he is still a very young man. He is very much around the first team squad, playing games and you could not ask any more. I thought not only what he did on the ball in this game but also his work rate without it was very impressive. He was big for us.'

City number one John Ruddy is one of Norwich's senior international brigade who underlined his class with an assured outing in the midst of Albion's bombardment.

'I'm really pleased for John,' said Hughton. 'As a team you are hurting when you concede the goals we have but probably it hurts even more for John and the back four. I never doubt the ability he has got. He is a regular with England and that is not a coincidence. He is with England on merit. We have great faith in John and I thought he was excellent.'
