Louis Thompson could be set for an extended spell on the sidelines, amid fears he has suffered an Achilles injury.

The combative midfielder was back in light training after the pelvic problem that has kept him out since an impressive Championship outing against Leeds United in November.

But Alex Neil is expected to confirm if Thompson has suffered a major setback in his recovery on Friday at his pre-match press call ahead of Birmingham's visit. The Scot is already without Youssouf Mulumbu, who is away with the DR Congo at the African Cup of Nations, whilst the likes of Graham Dorrans (knee) and Matt Jarivs (hamstring) are also on the sidelines. Alex Tettey is also one booking away from a two-match ban.

Former Reading midfielder Jem Karacan was on trial with the Canaries' earlier this week and played in a development game at Portsmouth on Monday as Neil looks to bring in fresh blood ahead of the transfer window deadline.
