Alex Neil labelled Norwich City's 5-0 drubbing at Brighton as 'humiliating'.

The Scot insisted the manner the Canaries appeared to give up in the final 30 minutes was unacceptable.

'You would expect with the experience we have that after it goes to two and three we can shut up shop,' he said. 'Put it down to a bad day and see what we can do next week, but it ended in a manner which is humiliating for everyone. Regardless of talking about how the game went, people will focus on the scoreline and for our club that is unacceptable. The scoreline is all that matters and that is embarrassing.'

Neil admitted Glenn Murray bullied his defence into submission after profiting from Michael McGovern's indecision in dealing with an early back pass to notch the first of his three goals.

'We gave Alex Tettey the job to challenge him and let the others drop off because we knew he would win his fair share and we wanted the extra cover,' said Neil. 'I thought despite the early goal we did that well in the first-half, but on the ones that mattered, when they crossed balls into the box, he ultimately got the better of our players.

'Michael knows he made a mistake and had to clear it. We are the makers of our own downfall. After the break we get hurt with a counter-attack, after we had a spell, and then the third goal is self-inflicted. It is a corner, we are man for man and they get the better of us. The fifth one I have a centre-back trying to pirouette and loses the ball. There are no excuses.'
