Adam Idah was thrilled to continue his exciting start to the season but was quick to acknowledge the role that Teemu Pukki played in his rejuvenating winner for Norwich City at Huddersfield.

Fresh from being capped at senior level by the Republic of Ireland, the 19-year-old came off the bench in the 75th minute and broke the deadlock within six minutes at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Pukki pounced on a dreadful back-pass from Town defender Richard Stearman and, despite being desperate for a goal himself, realised that Idah was in the better position to score on the opening day of the Championship season.

“I was delighted to get the goal but obviously when Teemu played the ball in there were a whole lot of nerves in me,” said the Irish youngster.

“It was a great ball by Teemu and he worked hard to get on the ball in the first place, so I’m delighted he squared the ball and fair dues to him for passing it to me because a lot of strikers wouldn’t pass the ball, but I’m happy that he did!”

Idah blasted the ball into the roof of the net under pressure on the edge of the six-yard box and admitted he was worried he’d struck the ball too hard for a split second.

“There was a little bit of thoughts in the back of my head of ‘if I miss this we might draw the game’ but that’s my job as a striker, to get goals,” he added.

“So it was probably a bit instinctive. Thankfully I connected with the ball and it hit the back of the net.”

Head coach Daniel Farke turned to Idah ahead of summer signing Jordan Hugill but the former West Ham and Preston striker made sure to congratulate his new team-mate at full-time, as the Canaries celebrated finishing a run of 12 consecutive defeats.

“We train a lot together, me, Teemu, Jordan and Danel (Sinani), all the striker partnership and I think we have a good connection,” Idah continued.

“There’s a good bunch of strikers there, there’s a good unity and connection.

“We all work hard in training, we’re all friendly with each other, so there’s a bit of tough competition there but I think that’s what every team needs, to work hard, play for each other and play for the team.”
