Football may be in crisis in England amid attempts to resume the suspended season but over in Germany there could be a Norwich City player in action tomorrow.

Left-back Philip Heise is on loan at Bundesliga 2 side Nürnberg , who have been back in training for a month and travel to St Pauli to resume their second-tier season on Sunday (12.30pm UK time).

With life moving towards normality in Germany, where the coronavirus death toll stands at around 8,000 as opposed to 34,000 in the UK, the top two tiers of football resume behind closed doors this weekend.

The derby clash between Borussia Dortmund and Schalke is the big draw today but former Canaries striker Dennis Srbeny could also be in action during the 2.30pm kick-offs, as Paderborn continue their Bundesliga survival battle at Fortuna Dusseldorf.

Srbeny had scored four goals in eight top-flight games since leaving City on a permanent deal in January, with BT Sport showing all of the top-tier games live this weekend.

Then Heise will hope to be in action for Nürnberg on Sunday, having made four appearances since joining on loan in late January. The 28-year-old joined Norwich from Dynamo Dresden in January 2019 but has made just one senior appearance, during a shock 1-0 loss away to League Two side Crawley Town in the second round of the League Cup earlier this season.

Heise still has two years to run on his City contract and asked recently by regional newspaper Nürnberger Nachrichten if he would be open to staying permanently, he said: “Yes, of course, why not, that’s why I came here in the first half of the year to maybe focus on playing here and maybe get a contract. I feel very comfortable here, the team welcomed me very well.”

Meanwhile, in England, discussions with players continue over how to begin training safely in small groups next week. National newspaper The Telegraph also report that the initial plan for Premier League games to return on June 12 is likely to be pushed back until June 19 amid the uncertainty.

The Football League however have confirmed in a statement that Championship clubs “wish to play on and conclude their season” to clear up any doubts.
