Nigel Pearson has reportedly applied for the vacant Norwich City job – with Celtic talent spotter David Moss emerged as a contender for a key Carrow Road role.

Nigel Pearson reportedly wants to fill the managerial vacancy at Norwich City – while Celtic talent spotter David Moss has emerged as a contender for a key Carrow Road role.

Pearson is looking to get back into the game after his controversial exit from Leicester City in June, 2015.

Pearson was involved in several odd incidents at Leicester, including arguing with fans, grappling with Crystal Palace's James McArthur and calling a journalist an ostrich. He also left Derby under a cloud last October after five months in charge after a reported row with owner Mel Morris – so he may find it difficult to persuade Delia Smith that he has changed his ways.

Former England manager Roy Hodgson remains in the frame as far as the bookies are concerned, and although he has been consulted by Delia and her husband Michael Wynn Jones there are doubts over whether he is interested in either of the key jobs that look set to be created under a restructuring at Carrow Road.

The expectation is that the new set-up will involve the creation of a role as director of football. The details are expected to be announced by the club this week, although, with an international break looming after Saturday's game against Barnsley there is no need to rush into an appointment.

It is likely that the first job to be filled would be director of football – and Celtic's head of development scouting Moss is reportedly in the frame.

Moss was part of the scouting network which helped take Virgil van Dijk and Victor Wanyama to Celtic while Moussa Dembele – who has scored 32 goals for the Hoops this season – credited Moss for his efforts with him when he signed last summer.

Moss, who was previously academy manager at Swansea City and Crystal Palace, worked under ex-head of football development John Park, but Park left Celtic in October with boss Brendan Rodgers aiming to bring in his own men.

Former Sunderland sporting director Lee Congerton was appointed head of recruitment at Celtic yesterday.

The names in the frame as far as pundits and bookies are concerned have generally been those for the coaching role and also include Alan Pardew and Stuart Pearce.
