‘Hopefully we can go further on’ – Farke staying focused as winning streak lifts City into top six
Norwich City may have moved into the Championship play-off positions but head coach Daniel Farke is staying calm about his team’s excellent form.
The Canaries moved up to fifth with a 1-0 home win over Wigan, sealing their fourth consecutive Championship win and fifth overall when including the Carabao Cup victory at Wycombe.
“It’s early days, I don’t pay too much attention to the table at the moment,” Farke said. “But I pay a lot of attention to how many points we’ve won and for that it’s important to be there already with 17 points (from 10 games) and a big distance from the positions you don’t want to be in.
“To be in such a good position in the table is a sign that you have won many points and I think this is quite important, after a really decent start, and hopefully we can go further on.”
The Carrow Road clash was decided late on, with in-form striker Teemu Pukki bundled over but allowing Mario Vrancic the chance to wrap up the points, with the fit-again midfielder calmly rolling home the 86th-minute winner.
It was the second time in three league games that 29-year-old Vrancic had come off the bench to score, having also fired home the key goal in a 2-1 win at Reading, and Fakre is pleased to have the cultured midfielder back after injury ruled him out of pre-season.
“It was not easy because he was out since the end of April and his first game was in September, so nearly four and a half months,” City’s boss continued.
“So to come back and to be more-or-less crucial in the games with our results with goals, although he is still not 100 percent back in his rhythm because he needs time and a few more games to be there, it’s important.
“But also the quality of his style and also mentality, he kept his cool in the end and was able to be there with a determining goal so I’m pleased for him.”
