Providing some entertainment for the Carrow Road faithful was Daniel Farke's biggest source of satisfaction after Norwich City edged a five-goal battle with battling Reading.

Canaries fans had to endure 0-0 draws against Bolton and Nottingham Forest in the last two home games, so a 3-2 victory warmed supporters on a freezing cold afternoon.

'It felt really good, when you win a game it's always good and especially when you have had a run of many draws and you are looking forward and greedy for the next win,' City's head coach said, after seeing his side end a seven-game winless streak.

'We did and also we were able to entertain our supporters, which was important because they had to be patient as well during the season. We had many games at the start of the season where we were struggling to create enough chances and then we were struggling to use the chances – and (against Reading) we scored three times and created many chances.

'So to win and entertain our supporters, we always have their support and we are pretty pleased that we were able to give them an entertaining day.'

City led 3-1 at the break after headers from Grant Hanley and Mario Vrancic, as well as a James Maddison penalty. Sam Smith pulled another goal back early in the second half to set up a nervy finish.

Onel Hernandez had a shot deflect against the post and Dennis Srbeny missed a god chance to put the game to bed so an Angus Gunn save from Yann Kermorgant in the 82nd minute was needed to preserve the points.

Yet Farke says he didn't feel overly nervous in the closing stages.

'I think in general it was a good game and you know that Reading are one of the best possession teams in the whole league,' he continued. 'Although they are not in the best position in the table, they were much better last season, they are still really good with possession.

'I think it's really important sometimes that you have to accept that the opposition is in possession and defend your last row, and we did, especially in the last 10 minutes it is quite normal that the other team is one goal down and they take more risks to put pressure on you but I don't think there was a clear chance in the last 10 minutes.

'It was us that had some really good counter-attacks, I was not concerned that we would concede a goal but you always have to be awake.

'It was important because we had to do without so many important lads for our defence, when I think about Alex Tettey, Tom Trybull, Moritz Leitner, Marco Stiepermann (all injured) and also Christoph Zimmermann is still a bit ill and not 100 percent there.

'Nelson Oliveira was also there on the bench just in case we needed to take a risk for 10 minutes because he is still a bit injured with his calf.

'But the lads on the pitch were really brilliant and I think it could have been 5-2 or 6-2. For that I'm pretty pleased with the performance and also with the last minutes.'
