‘It’s important that we have this togetherness’ – Farke hopes united spirit at City will provide patience for youngsters

Since the narrow 1-0 win over Middlesbrough a fortnight ago which sparked a fresh feel of togetherness the Canaries have embarked on a four-game winning streak – but City's head coach doesn't see his side as favourites against the Latics.

'Wigan have had a really decent start to the season, they are in the play-off positions right now so they are in a good shape and in a good mood,' said Farke.

'We all know that we have to fight for each and every point. In the last league games we've played on the wings with an average age of 19-point-something, I think no other club in western Europe plays with such a young group in such competitive games.

'When you play with so many academy products it's good for the club but you also know that sometimes there are also mistakes or naive behaviour from the young lads. Also with this group of players they have to fight in each and every game for each and every point and we all know this but it's important to, especially in this moment, to show the support and unity of our fan-base.'

Despite the youth provided by Jamal Lewis and Todd Cantwell on the left, and Max Aarons and Emi Buendia on the right, the Canaries are unbeaten in six matches in all competitions.

City's boss is hoping that influx of academy players will buy some patience during difficult moments, after a fine atmosphere during the nervy closing stages against Boro.

'They were brilliant in the last home game and the away games,' Farke continued. I think they got the feeling that there is a group of players on the pitch who work together, who show a big commitment, who are really desperate to play for this club.

'So there is 100 percent identification between the players and the club. When you show this character, work load and attitude I got the feeling that supporters can accept mistakes or when you are not there with world class performances, because there are so many young lads and you are trying to build a unit.

'It's important that we have this togetherness and we have this atmosphere because then we are able to win points in each and every game and we are looking forward to winning some points on Saturday as well.'
