Mitchell Dijks will be heading back to Ajax this summer after Norwich City confirmed they will not take up the option of signing him permanently.

The 24-year-old has been a big hit with fans since moving to Carrow Road on loan last January.

His muscular presence and forays down the left flank made him a fans' favourite although he did blot his copybook with a needless sending off against Blackburn, which meant he missed three games.

The majority of Norwich supporters still wanted the club to exercise an option to buy the Dutchman for around 3m Euros but with the club needing to trim their wage bill it never looked likely.

Norwich will now turn their attentions elsewhere with Fleetwood defender Amari'i Bell reportedly a target although Aston Villa and Birmingham are also interested in the left back.

It is an area that Norwich desperately need to strengthen this summer with Harry Toffolo the only recognised senior left back currently on City's books.
