Player ratings for both Norwich City and Everton following their Premier League clash.

• Norwich City

7 John Ruddy: Showed the Evertonians what they are missing. Two excellent parries from Leighton Baines. Composed.

6 Steven Whittaker: Rare aberration for Everton's goal. Profitable supply line with two inviting second-half crosses.

7 Ryan Bennett: Big test for the young man and did not disappoint. Grew in confidence and stature as the contest evolved.

8 Sebastien Bassong: Led by example. Forceful in defence, potent in attack. The fulcrum of City's resistance.

7 Javier Garrido: Picked out Sebastien Bassong for the crucial stoppage-time equaliser. Gruelling test provided by Steven Pienaar.

6 Alex Tettey: Bizarre booking late on. Thankless task trying to nullify Everton's ball players at times in the opening half.

6 Bradley Johnson: Likewise, Everton's movement and speed of thought through midfield proved difficult to quell.

6 Robert Snodgrass: Saw a second-half angled dig scrambled off the line. Outstanding work-rate up against Leighton Baines.

6 Wes Hoolahan: Not at his smooth best, it must be said. Flow of the game was never conducive to the Irishman's urgings.

7 Anthony Pilkington: Foiled by Tim Howard twice in the second period. Almost paid for a sloppy inside pass seized on by Baines.

6 Grant Holt: Battered by Sylvain Distin throughout. Not much protection from the officials either. Great attitude.

Subs: Steve Morison (for Hoolahan) 6, Mark Bunn (for Ruddy) 5, Simeon Jackson (for Snodgrass) 5

• Everton

7 Tim Howard: Equal to City's best offensive work right up until fatal hesitancy for Sebastien Bassong's equaliser.

6 Phil Jagielka: Playing out of position for the team. Solid, reliable performer.

6 John Heitinga: Completely lost Bassong for the Canaries' leveller. Did clear Robert Snodgrass' scuffed hit off his line.

7 Sylvain Distin: Never left Grant Holt's side, or rather back. Muscular shift. Awesome athlete.

7 Leighton Baines: Denied by his England colleague with two trademark slaloming runs in each half. Class act.

7 Steven Naismith: Fine anticipation and fine technique to slot Bryan Oviedo's cut-back. Less precise in the second period.

7 Leon Osman: Has a fantastic understanding with Steven Pienaar. Constant threat in the first half, but his impact waned.

6 Thomas Hitzlsperger: Sets the tempo in a withdrawn role. Excellent range of passing, underlined by his role in the opener.

6 Bryan Oviedo: Bright and inventive. Showed composure as well for his early assist. Tested John Ruddy after the interval.

7 Steven Pienaar: untouchable in the first period. Typified by one mid-air backheel. Less influential after the break. Thankfully.

6 Nikica Jelavic: Not the goal-scoring machine of last season on this evidence. Struggled as the lone frontman.

Subs: Apostolos Vellios (for Naismith) 5
