Norwich City youngsters Jacob and Josh Murphy have taken further steps up the England international ladder.

The Downham Market twins represented England Under-19s for the first time on Tuesday night in a 1-0 win over Finland in Telford.

The 17-year-old wingers both impressed as the Young Lions secured victory courtesy of John Lundstram's stoppage-time penalty.

Jacob wore No 11 for Noel Blake's side, while identical twin brother Josh, wearing 14, started on the bench, came on in the 69th minute.

Both had a positive impact on the match, with Jacob testing the Finland goalkeeper on a number of occasions and Josh's cross from the left coming within inches of setting up a goal late in the match.

Last month, the identical twins made simultaneous debuts for England Under-18s in a 2-0 victory over Italy at Mansfield.

Academy Manager Ricky Martin, who was at Tuesday's game, told the club's official website: 'It's a real boost for us at the Academy.

'What we want is international football to give the boys a different experience, so they go away and come back hungrier and more determined to develop.

'So far from what I've seen, everyone that's gone away has come back wanting to kick on even further. That's what we want – for them to mix, train, and play with different types of players in a different environment and broaden their footballing horizons.

'I was delighted to see both players selected for the under-19s after competing for England at under-18s level, and to step up an age group is a great achievement for both of them.

'They were a real threat. They can be match-winners within a second with their turn of pace and skill, and ability to play off both sides.

'That's a testament to them and all the hard work they've put in over the years they've been at the Academy. They're talented young players who are heading the right direction.'

As City's push for Category One status looks set to be ratified, the academy also received youth call-ups for Cameron King (Scotland), Adel Gafaiti (Algeria), Ramil Sheriff (Jamaica), and Kyle Callan-McFadden (Republic of Ireland).
