Norwich City Under-18s will host Derby County in the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup – after Manchester United were knocked out by the Rams.

The Canaries qualified for the fourth round when they beat Barnsley 4-1 at Carrow Road on Tuesday night, with Irish striker Adam Idah scoring an impressive 10-minute hat-trick.

David Wright's squad then had to wait 24 hours to find out who they would face in the fourth round, as Derby hosted Manchester United at Pride Park this evening.

The match finished 2-2 after 90 minutes, with United coming from behind twice with heavy snow falling and eventually went to penalties, with the visitors down to nine men after a red card and a lengthy injury stoppage.

Derby keeper Joe Fryatt was then the shootout hero, saving three of United's spot-kicks in a 3-1 success, with players on both sides looking weary after more than two hours of football.

The Red Devils have won the Youth Cup a record 10 times, the last of which came in 2011, but were knocked out by the Rams – who have never lifted the trophy.

Norwich won the competition in 1983 and 2013, making it to the quarter-finals in 2016 and the fifth round last season.

Derby are currently fifth in U18 Premier League North, just two points adrift of leaders Manchester City, who they beat 2-0 in the league on Saturday.

The date and venue for the tie are yet to be confirmed but all the fourth round ties must be played by Saturday, January 20.

The young Canaries are currently scheduled to enjoy a winter break before returning to U18 Premier League South action on Saturday, January 13 when they host Tottenham Hotspur at Colney in a midday kick-off.
