Norwich City have added a player of 'exceptional speed' to their ranks following the signing of Simon Power.

That's the view of agent Dan Chapman, who helped orchestrate the deal for the youngster, who signed an initial 18-month contract with the Canaries on Wednesday.

Power will go straight into City's development squad having represented University College Dublin (UCD) in the 2017 season and Chapman believes the 19-year-old has the talent to break into Norwich's first team in the future.

'He is one of the fastest players that I've ever seen – he's got exceptional speed,' said Chapman, who is a senior partner at Full Contact, the agency which handled the deal. 'When we first saw him we knew he was a player worthy of clubs to look at.

'He's got a lot of attributes – it's going to take time obviously but the sheer pace he has got will make him a threat at any level.

'A lot of clubs wanted to have a look at him but Norwich is a very good club for a young player to go to at the moment.'

Power has been capped by Ireland at U19 level but has plenty of experience of men's football having played for UCD in the Irish second tier. 'I think if you look at his playing history it probably looks fairly scant,' admitted Chapman. 'But he has focused on getting an education first.

'UCD play in the Irish second division and their team is made of up students – they get very good experience as students playing men's football and they have produced several very good players over the years. It's a bit of a hotbed for talent.'

It is the first time City have signed a player through the Norwich-based Full Contact agency and Chapman hopes it is a sign of things to come.

'In the past Norwich haven't been interested in looking at players like this,' added Chapman, whose agency also handled the deal that took Cohen Bramall from non-league Hednesford to Arsenal last year.

'Players like Che Adams (Birmingham) and Cohen Bramall (Arsenal) have come through us but they weren't interested in looking at these sorts of players in the past.

'That's obviously changed now and it makes good business sense. If a player like this comes through then it can save a club a fortune.

'Look at someone like Adam Phillips – he signed a development contract, he's been on the bench a couple of times at Norwich and now he's got the chance to show what he can do at Cambridge. There's a clear plan for these players to make an impact.'
