‘If you can get to it, you get to it’ – Zimmermann on the block that earned Norwich Boro win

Christoph Zimmermann was his usually modest self as the captain’s block helped take Norwich City a big step closer to the Premier League.
The current captain stuck out his big left leg to deny Stuart Downing’s header on 78 minutes at Middlesbrough, preserving a lead earned by Onel Hernandez as the Championship leaders made it seven straight wins since defeat at Preston.
Daniel Farke’s side are now seven points clear of third-placed Sheffield United with just seven games to play.
“I didn’t exactly know where the post was or where the goal was – I just thought I could get to it,” said Zimmermann.
“If it is in the box and you can get to it, you get to it. I am just happy that it didn’t go in at the end and that we kept a clean sheet.
“I think we have faced a very strong side, a tough complicated game especially with their physicality. I didn’t know the other results so far but if it is seven points of course it is a good step, a good situation at this point of the season.”
Zimmermann collected Sky Sports’ man of the match award for his sterling efforts, after a game that left the 1,500 travelling City fans chanting ‘We’re gonna win the league’.
“We know it is still seven games to go and that is plenty of points to get,” he added. “For that we should stick to what we have done all season and take it game by game, and always work and fight like we have done here.”
