Chris Hughton brushes off fresh Norwich City sack talk

Norwich's stirring 1-0 victory over Tottenham was the perfect response for Chris Hughton after he had to wake up to fresh headlines suggesting it was 'win or bust' for the City boss.

One national newspaper over the weekend claimed Hughton would be dismissed if the Canaries failed to beat his former side, but Hughton insisted his sole focus was on edging another step closer to Premier League survival.

'It wasn't something that I had thought about. There is enough that goes into a week with preparation and loads of other things and dealing with the players that all my focus was very much on getting a result,' he said. 'I work in an industry that is about momentum, getting results and getting the best out of the players at your disposal. My job on a daily basis is hectic enough, with numerous things you have to make decisions on. That dominates my thoughts, not anything outside that. There is so much to management which means you have to give that your 100pc concentration and focus. Anything outside of the main objective will not deter me.'

Hughton deflected the praise onto his players who illustrated again they are firmly behind their under-pressure manager.

'What gives me a lot of confidence is that we have a really good group of players,' he said. 'There have been frustrations and they feel it, but the training ground is a good place to be and when you get results it is even better. A result like this underlines not that they are behind me but that they care and they are desperate to make sure they are Premier League players next season, and good Premier League players. First and foremost they have a responsibility to work hard every day. They have to be the best players they can be and they have to have that drive from within.'
