The young Canaries – who were hammered 7-0 by a strong Manchester United side at Old Trafford in their last Under-21 Premier League Division One encounter – shipped another five goals during a miserable night in the rain at Aldershot.

City got off to the worst possible start as they found themselves a goal behind inside just four minutes against the London giants, who were looking for their third win in four matches.

On a soggy pitch, Tammy Abraham charged down goalkeeper Jake Kean's clearance and fed the loose ball back to Blues skipper Fankaty Dabo.

His low cross was swept into the net by Reece Mitchell.

City's Benny Ashley-Seal spurned a good opportunity to swiftly level while at the other end Abraham wasted a great chance to make it two as he failed to turn the ball home from close range.

However, it didn't take long for Chelsea to add a second with Jordan Houghton lashing home from close range after the visitors had failed to deal with a corner.

That 11th-minute goal wasn't added upon until early in the second half when Chelsea killed the game off with an incisive breakaway.

Ben Godfrey was dispossessed in the middle of the park and Kasey Palmer was the eventual beneficiary when he tapped into an empty net after Abraham's shot had struck the upright.

The misery continued for Dmitri Halajko's side as home substitute Dion Conroy wasted no time in getting in on the act.

The defender cut inside from the left and bent a sweet effort beyond Kean and into the top corner.

City's keeper made a number of fine saves to keep it at four but he was powerless to prevent Fikayo Tomori finding the net in the 82nd minute.

Norwich: Kean; Hall-Johnson, Efete, Coker, Uade; Godfrey, Grant; Middleton, Cantwell (McIntosh, 79), Adams (Ramsey, 67); Ashley-Seal. Unused subs: Beauchamp, Lewis, Jaiyesimi.
