Norwich City's upcoming trip to Wigan Athletic has been pushed back a week due to the Latics having to contend with a fixture pile-up.

The Championship match was due to be played on the evening of Tuesday, January 31 but will instead be played on Tuesday, February 7, in a 7.45pm kick-off.

The switch is due to Wigan's FA Cup fourth round tie against Manchester United being expected to be played on Sunday, January 29, because of United's EFL Cup semi-final second leg at Hull City being played on Thursday, January 26.

The Latics are also due to face Sheffield Wednesday in the league on Friday, February 3, due to live TV coverage.

City have warned that the fixture could yet change again however, due to the possibility of Wigan facing an FA Cup replay.

The original fixture would also have clashed with the final day of the January transfer window, so the change eliminates any potential problems that could have caused for the Canaries on what is traditionally a busy night.

With a full programme of games scheduled otherwise, the change could just give City a transfer edge over some of their Championship rivals on deadline day.
