Norwich City will see a better Carlton Morris return after the summer – and he is aiming to prove it with one last Wembley effort this season, when Shrewsbury Town take on Rotherham United in Sunday's EFL League One play-off final.

The 22-year-old striker played a key role in starting both legs of Shrewsbury Town's semi-final win over Charlton, and is now hoping he will get the nod for Sunday's Wembley final against Paul Warne's Millers.

And there is no doubt victory under the arch would be the perfect way to round off an excellent loan campaign, for one of City's 2013 FA Youth Cup winners.

'I set a few targets and I wanted to get into double figures (for goals), which I've just scraped. I just wanted to have a successful season, play a lot of games, get experience under my belt so I could go back to Norwich a better player,' said Morris, who has 53 appearances and 10 goals in all competitions this term – including another Wembley run to the Checkatrade Trophy final against Lincoln.

'Definitely I'm a much better player than the one that arrived in August – and that's the same every season if you're playing games; you are only going get better.

'We've got a good training regime here. I've got stronger as an athlete, fitter. I feel like I can deal with three games in a week whereas before, I probably couldn't have. So I've definitely come on leaps and bounds this season.'

Morris won't be the only City star looking for Wembley success of course, with Ben Godfrey having enjoyed an equally successful campaign on loan at a Shrews side that finished just 13 places behind the pair's parent club in the English football ladder.

'It has been good,' smiled Morris. 'Me and Ben, our relationship has grown a lot since we've been here together – I've taken him under my wing and made him the player he is now, so he'll be thankful for that!

'Joking aside, it's been brilliant having Ben here as well. Having a familiar face does help you integrate into the team a bit better plus you've always got that link back to Norwich. Never forget your base.'

Morris added: 'Sunday is the big stage, isn't it? That's why we play the game – to get to these sorts of spectacles.

'It was brilliant last time. Even though we didn't get the result we wanted, just being at Wembley and that boyish dream… Hopefully that novelty has kind of worn off us as a team a little bit, if that makes sense, because you don't really want to be getting too caught up in all that.

'We've got a job to do, so we'll go and enjoy the game but first and foremost we've got to roll our sleeves up and get the result.'
