On-loan Norwich City striker Carlton Morris was the hero as Shrewsbury booked a trip to Wembley last night.
Morris scored the only goal of the game as the League One high-flyers saw off Yeovil Town from League Two to book their place in the final of the Checkatrade Trophy, where they will face Lincoln City.
The young frontman's magic moment came in the 65th minute when he met Simon Whalley's corner with a powerful header that thundered into the net to send the bulk of a 4,118 crowd at the New Meadow into raptures.
The Shrews had a big scare in the second minute of injury-time when Dean Henderson made a great save to keep his side ahead. Yeovil's Otis Khan hit the ball hard and low towards the bottom corner but Henderson got a firm hand to parry the ball away. Morris was in the dug-out by then, having been replaced by Stefan Payne in the 81st minute, but Norwich colleague Ben Godfrey played the full 90 minutes.
