Xavi Quintilla will add an extra dimension to Norwich City for Daniel Farke – and the statistics back him up with the Spanish left back rated one of the best crossers in the English game.

The 24-year-old replaced Jamal Lewis at left-back ahead of the Championship fightback, and despite City’s struggles in front of goal prior to the international break, had already showcased his quality at set-pieces.

Quintilla has officially produced the third highest number of crosses in the top four leagues in England in the early weeks, but Farke admits it is a work in progress for both the former Villarreal defender and his new team-mates.

“He is a bit different in comparison to Jamal, in terms of positioning in the build-up and his overall skills,” said the City boss. “Jamal was physically outstanding and could defend any player in the Premier League.

“Xavi is an attacking full-back with great crosses, great set-pieces. With all respect if there was one weakness in Jamal’s game perhaps it was a lack of assists and goals. That is why we brought in a slightly different player.

“He has been pretty impressive. He has played in a three-man and a four-man formation in the games. You saw the ball he played for Teemu (Pukki) to score in the Preston game. We want to use his strengths to bring him into higher positions.

“It is still a work in progress, but he has already proved he can swim.

“Xavi will improve the longer he is in this league. He is surprised some of the fouls on him are not given as fouls in this country, but that is all part of learning about football in England.”
