The Canaries are closing in on a deal for prolific SC Paderborn hitman Dennis Srbeny.
The 23-year-old striker, top scorer in the German third tier, did not train with his team mates on Wednesday ahead of flying to England to finalise a reported £1m move.
Srbeny’s club confirmed earlier in the day they had agreed a fee with an unnamed Championship side, and Srbeny is expected to sign a deal until 2021 at Carrow Road.
The prolific striker could be one of three German-based players recruited ahead of the trip to Brentford. Onel Hernandez is set to be unveiled on Thursday, after completing his move from Eintracht Braunschweig, and City also want FC Augsburg’s highly-rated midfielder Moritz Leitner on loan.
Paderborn’s top brass have told German media they do no want to lose the man who has fired them to the top of the table, with nine goals and eight assists in 15 outings, but Srbeny is believed to be keen on a switch to England.
SC coach, Steffen Baumgart, reported in the Westfalen-Blatt newspaper, said: “Dennis is an important part of our team, but I am firmly convinced that we can achieve our goals without him. We will continue on our way.”
Srbeny has 18 months left on his existing deal and has been a hit at Paderborn since signing from BFC Dynamo last summer, where he notched 18 goals in 33 matches in Regionalliga North, the fourth tier of German football. He was previously on the books of Hansa Rostock, playing primarily for the club’s second team.
