Norwich City did not snub a £2m bid for Marley Watkins from Championship rivals Cardiff City on deadline day.
Watkins had been touted with both Barnsley and Bristol City earlier in the transfer window, but reports during Wendesday's transfer window finale the Bluebirds had bid for the Welsh international proved wide of the mark.
Christoph Zimmermann was also linked to Premier League Bournemouth in another rumour with no substance.
Norwich reportedly failed with a £300,000 bid for Luton's Akin Famewo, on a quiet day that only saw the departure of young wide player Glenn Middleton. The teenage central defender is believed to be on City's scouting radar, but no offer was made by the Canaries to the League Two leaders.
City brought in five senior players last month, with Alex Pritchard and Cameron Jerome headline departures, along with a host of loan moves.
James Maddison was heavily tipped for a Premier League exit last month after being linked with Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham but City's top brass made it clear it would take a mega money offer to part with the England Under-21 starlet.

Farke admitted at the time it was a tough call to see Pritchard depart, in a reported £11m move to Premier League Huddersfield, while understanding the financial logic behind the decision to cash in.

But the German is convinced the likes of Dennis Srbeny, Onel Hernandez and Moritz Leitner will prove their worth over the rest of the Championship season.
'After losing so many important players it was vital to strengthen our forward areas.
'We have a brilliant scouting network and Stuart must get a lot of big compliments,' said Farke.
'From a financial point of view we saved and earned a lot of money but brought in quality.
'It is really difficult to replace the players we lost. With Cameron Jerome we lost an experienced striker who is good in the dressing room and can score in this league.
'But when you get an offer for a guy who is 31 with 18 months left on his contract and we can get a transfer fee and save on his salary it is sometimes good business.
'We replaced him with a young lad in Dennis who has to prove he is able to score goals on our level but is in a good rhythm from his time at Paderborn.'
