Norwich City have sealed a loan move for Tottenham's highly-rated teenage midfielder Marcus Edwards.

City beat off competition from a host of Championship rivals to land the England U19 international until the end of the season.

'I'm really excited and can't wait to help the team,' he told the club's official site, although Edwards is not available for the midweek FA Cup trip to Chelsea. 'I like to get on the ball, take people on, create things and score goals.

'When I spoke to the manager, he made me feel welcome and explained how he wanted to play.

'After hearing about Norwich, I started watching more videos. There are a few young players here and that will help me.

'I've been at Tottenham since I was seven or eight, coming through the academy system.

'It's a big move, but I'm excited about it.

'I've looked at the table and the fixture list. I'm hoping to get involved as soon as possible.'

Edwards was part of the England squad who lifted the European Championships at under-19 level last summer but has found first team opportunities limited at White Hart Lane since making his League Cup debut back in September 2016.

City offloaded Alex Pritchard last week in a reported £11m deal to Huddersfield, and Tottenham starlet Edwards is cast in the same mould as a creative attacking midfielder.

Pochettino labelled Edwards as a 'Mini Messi' after watching him at development level, but the youngster picked up an ankle injury after his senior debut in 2016 that cut short his meteoric progress through the ranks.

Daniel Farke made it clear before the 1-0 Championship win at Bristol City, the Canaries will be looking to add attacking players following the sale of Pritchard and a loan move for Yanic Wildschut to Cardiff.

'Marcus is a young player with huge potential,' he told the club's official site. 'He is rated as one of the biggest talents in English football but will need some time to adapt to a new surrounding and to the physical game in the Championship.

'Again, it's a sign of our way to work with young and talented players.

'Marcus has got a very good education at Tottenham and is rated as one of the biggest talents in English football.

'He is able to cover several positions in our attack, and because of his technique, creativity and ability to win one-against-one situations he offers us new opportunities. We are happy that he gives us new options in our offence.

'It is also a good sign that such a highly rated club like Tottenham Hotspur chose Norwich as the best opportunity for Marcus to develop.'
