Alex Tettey wanted Norwich City's top brass to prove their ambition before extending his stay.

The combative midfielder signed a new two year deal earlier this week, keeping him at the club until 2020, but Tettey insisted it was about more than his pay packet.

The 32-year-old believes Daniel Farke has now got to grips with the Championship after a bumpy debut season.

'They needed to show me ambition and from the manager I have seen his philosophy and how he works with the group,' said Tettey.

'I am very pleased with his work and with him now knowing the Championship and what is required to win certain types of games I believe he will get it right - if he gets someone to help us finish the chances.

'I say it a lot but I am not sure people understand just how tough this league is.

'I don't think the manager understood it before he came here either.

'You can have a team like Reading who one year reach the play-off final and the next fight to avoid relegation.

'When you get older you get a bit wiser and you look at the whole picture, not just what I want.

'The offer changed. The family making a decision also changed things.

'They are settled here and that makes the decision a bit easier. If you have a family this is a very, very nice place to live and Norwich is a good club. I am happy with this decision.

'Talking to Norwich we managed to find a solution that everyone thought worked.

'I spoke with Stuart (Webber) and the manager and I will keep to myself what was said but we had a good chat and they tried their best to keep me here.

'I didn't just sign because they put the contract there for me on the table.

'I had a long chat with the manager and Stuart.'

Tettey may have pledged his future to the club but accepts departures are inevitable this summer as the Canaries look to reshape Farke's squad.

'It is normal for us as players that you lose lads who you don't want to see go,' he said.

'Maybe three leave, maybe three or four coming in.

'We have Kenny McLean already and from what I am hearing the possibility of more coming in.

'Hopefully we can have a team that can function to give us the best possible chance of succeeding.'
