Alex Tettey is not a man who minces his words. Norwich City need to sign a predator in the summer to build on Daniel Farke's first season at the helm.

Tettey had to win over the German, after being left out of his plans at the start of the season, but that watershed defeat to Millwall revealed a pragmatic side to the Norwich head coach.

Farke restored Tettey to his line-up alongside Tom Trybull, and the pair sparked a long unbeaten run that eventually landed the Norwegian a new two-year deal signed in recent days.

'I don't like praising myself. I am too old for that. I have done my best,' said Tettey, who is ruled out of the final game at Sheffield Wednesday after a knee injection. 'I have been myself, to be fair, after not playing the first five games.

'He said it at that time and it was the truth, I was smiling, working hard in training, I was happy and then he gave me a chance and in a way I showed him I can play his football.

'It is not rocket science.

'I am not James Maddison, but I can play football. Yes, I showed him that and at times you need players like me and Tom Trybull to play.

'His philosophy is very exciting, everything we do in training is about taking that into games and looking to dominate.

'It has been ups and downs. Some good football but in a certain area of the pitch we have to be more decisive.

'The manager knows how and where to improve that to make us a better team.

'The statistics show we are building something but the most important statistic is scoring goals and taking our chances in games. Getting a goalscorer for next season so we can kill games will be crucial for us.'

Tettey is happy to be a mentor to the likes of Ben Godfrey and Louis Thompson as one of the most experienced players at Farke's disposal moving forward.

'For someone who has been here a while it is natural that you try to help a younger player,' he said.

'I am the last man standing from when I arrived now if you look at the group.

'It is a completely new group from when I arrived and that is nice.

'It is not possible to have the same faces. You need freshness and that is the direction Norwich is going. That is the natural side of building things at a football club.

'I am 32. I can't play all the games.

'They know they need to manage me during the whole season for me to be at my best. The manager now knows that, I feel.

'There will be times when they are counting on me to keep things going in training, to make sure the lads are working hard, to show the right attitude.'
