Sluggish Norwich City came up short against Chris Wilder's Sheffield United after suffering an FA Cup hangover.

City were unable to raise themselves three days after pushing Premier League champions Chelsea all the way before losing in a penalty shoot out at Stamford Bridge.

The Canaries' four-match unbeaten Championship run ended with James Wilson and Clayton Donaldson cashing in on defensive gifts from the hosts, with Ivo Pinto's header unable to spark a late comeback.

Daniel Farke made just one change to the team which started the gruelling midweek cup test, key midfielder Alex Tettey replacing Mario Vrancic in midfield.

The after effects of that draining night was immediately apparent though with the visitors – who didn't have a game in midweek – obviously sharper from the off and taking the lead in just the sixth minute.

Young left-back Jamal Lewis – fresh from scoring his fist Canaries' senior goal on Wednesday – conceded an unnecessary corner and John Fleck's set-piece bounced around the City area until Manchester United loanee Wilson fired home a low shot.

Their second goal came thanks to a nightmare moment for Tettey, his weak back-pass allowing Donaldson to roll the ball past the exposed Angus Gunn.

Pinto flicked on a near-post header from a Vrancic corner from the right, scoring just his second goal for Norwich, shortly after but City were unable to muster a second.

Farke expects new signings in the coming days, and Norwich's thin squad looks badly in need of new blood ahead of the trip to Brentford.
