Daniel Farke provides updates on Nelson Oliveira and Alex Tettey’s absences after Norwich City’s 3-2 friendly win against SC Paderborn

Dennis Srbeny and Teemu Pukki were on target, after City trailed 2-0 at the break, and the need to get the Canaries' new strikers goals and minutes on the pitch is the only reason Oliveira has not travelled.

The Portuguese international's future remains a hot topic but Farke confirmed in Gutersloh there is no imminent exit.

'I can't do anything about speculation,' he said. 'To be honest, we were speaking about this when we discussed this topic and we knew there would be rumours or speculation. That might not help us but we are convinced this is the right decision to introduce the new lads and we will not be forced to do something different by maybe opinions from outside the camp. This was the right decision for this moment for this group.

'Nelson is part of our group and we just decided not to have him with us. We want to build a togetherness in this group and bring them tightly together.

'We have three games and the new lads need many, many minutes on the pitch. Jordan Rhodes is new and has not been involved so much at Sheffield Wednesday. So he needs a lot of minutes.

'Teemu Pukki, the same, to adapt to our style and even Dennis Srbeny, it feels like he has not played a lot for us since he came here.

'So there is no space right now and Nelson knows how we want to play and came late to pre-season. So let's concentrate on these lads for the next weeks.'

Alex Tettey has also remained in the UK after contracting chicken pox that could rule him out for the start of the Championship season.

'Normally it is something you associate with children. We were all a bit surprised,' said Farke. 'It sounds a bit ridiculous but it can be really serious to get it as an adult.

'The doctor was able to make a quick diagnosis. There was no chance to travel with us or even later. He could be out for three weeks. I hope he can return pretty soon.'

Louis Thompson had a chance to lay down another marker in that defensive midfielder role as one of four half-time substitutes for the Canaries that helped turn the tide.

Sven Michael swept home the opening for Paderborn in the second minute before Philipp Klement doubled their lead when he beat Remi Matthews from 20 yards.

Srbeny notched his second goal in a matter of days before Pukki moved centre stage with a superb match-winning curling effort.

'They played with lots of self confidence, they are used to winning games after last season,' said Farke. 'It was a totally different test to what we have had in pre-season. They wanted to press us high.

'I was especially pleased with the second half after being 2-0 down and in these conditions.'
