Jamal Lewis says he is 'thrilled' to sign a new long-term contract with Norwich City, committing his future to the club until 2023.

The young left-back has made 32 appearances for the Canaries since making his debut in December 2017 and has become an established first team player.

The 20-year-old has earned the fresh deal having signed terms through until at least 2021 in the summer of 2017, following the arrival of Stuart Webber as sporting director and Daniel Farke as head coach.

But he has since emerged as a Northern Ireland international and reportedly attracted the interest of Premier League clubs including Bournemouth and Watford, helping to earn his fresh terms.

'I'm thrilled. I'm very happy to get it signed and sealed and now it's important to just keep playing football and keep improving,' said Lewis.

'They (Farke and Stuart Webber) have shown lots of faith in me since last year and pre-season, putting me in with the lads and it's just been a good, growing relationship since then.

'Every game I play, I just try and repay them and keep contributing to the team.

'I missed the first part of last season with injury but once it got to the New Year I was in the team and the games were coming so I had to get used to it.

'It was a new experience for me with the number of games and high level of competition but this season, I think I'm adapting quite well and I'm really enjoying my football at the moment.'

Lewis joined the Canaries as a 16-year-old having previously left Luton Town to concentrate on a promising athletics career.

The Luton-born defender qualifies for Northern Ireland through his mother and has three caps to his name so far. He is currently away for Uefa Nations League games in Austria on Friday and Bosnia & Herzegovina on Monday.

He has made 11 appearances for City this season after shaking off missing pre-season due to illness and injury.

Farke, speaking to City's website, added: 'Jamal has grown up so much that we don't speak about him so much as a young player anymore.

'His performances are so grown-up, and he's now really experienced. He's always there with a high consistency and he's a real fixed point in our plan.

'He's still only 20 years old and it's an unbelievably good sign for our club that we are able to have such a young talent that is willing to stay here with us.'
