TEAM NEWS: Some bad, some good for Norwich City’s midfield options ahead of QPR trip

Louis Thompson is back in the mix for the Championship test at QPR - but Kenny McLean has undergone fresh scans on his ankle ligament injury.
The Scottish international was targeting a return to the first team set up ahead of the international break, but head coach Daniel Farke revealed at Colney on Friday McLean is still troubled by the ankle injury suffered in the League Cup win against Stevenage.
Thompson has recovered swiftly from his hamstring problem, in the East Anglian derby, and is available for the trip to West London. Moritz Leitner is fit for duty after leaving the pitch at Reading in midweek with an ice pack on his leg, but Ben Marshall (illness) is still ruled out.
“Ben has been away most of the week. He was in on Friday, pretty early before the other lads were in, because the doctor said we had to careful so he did some bike work this morning and is not available. We hope he can be back with us next week,” said Farke.
“Louis Thompson is available, he’s back in team training. He hasn’t lost so much fitness because he’s been able to do some running. He returned to training on Thursday and he looked sharp. It also helps that he is homegrown.
“Kenny has had slight problems with his ankle. We aren’t too concerned but he still has some problems when he does multi-directional movements. We will have to do without him.
“We scanned it back and it seems okay. He is fine with the ball, fine with sprints, but changing direction he is struggling. We are not very happy with it but we have to deal with it.
“Moritz had a dead leg before the game and he had a sore quad when he got a hit on it. We managed to substitute him but he is fine. Max Aarons also got a hit against his calf and he was struggling in the last 30 minutes (at Reading) but it seems ok.
“We will travel with the same squad as Reading. Just one change. Aston Oxborough was not able to save a shot from Dennis Srbeny in the warm up and his hand is swollen and not able to come with us. Michael McGovern will come in.”
Onel Hernandez is back in light training after his hernia surgery in midweek while Ivo Pinto and Nelson Oliveira are on duty for the development squad in Friday afternoon’s home game against Newcastle United’s U23s.
“Ivo is back in team training as well but he has missed quite a bit of football so far,” said Farke. “He missed all of pre-season so he will play some minutes for the Under-23s.
“Onel’s operation is done and was successful. He is already back and the Doctor is pretty pleased. He could be back soon. He’s desperate to come back as soon as possible.”
Carlton Morris and Matt Jarvis are longer term absentees.
