Norwich City have rejected a cheeky £5m opening offer for Alex Pritchard from Huddersfield Town.

The Premier League club's attempt to try and prise the 24-year-old out of Carrow Road on the cheap was swiftly knocked back.

City's sporting director Stuart Webber has already made it clear Daniel Farke is under no pressure to offload his best talent in the coming weeks.

Norwich's top brass is prepared to play hard ball with any potential top flight suitors this month, despite inevitable speculation surrounding the likes of Pritchard, James Maddison and Nelson Oliveira.

Terriers' chief David Wagner revealed prior to the weekend he is a big admirer of the former Tottenham starlet, but Town's initial enquiries have received short shrift.

Pritchard has already underlined his class since returning to the City side in recent weeks, following ankle surgery, and the midfielder is a key figure for Farke.

City's head coach was again forced to bat away reports over the weekend he could have to plan for life without Pritchard in the coming months.

Wagner confirmed on Friday he is in the market for a number 10.

'Pritchard is not my player, he is a Norwich player,' he said. 'I like him, but I have my doubts if he will play for us because I know how expensive British players are in this window.

'If we are able to get some British players in they have to be reasonable prices. At the end it is all about quality. If it's one new signing with the quality to help us, good.'
