Nelson Oliveira was on target with a match-winning brace in his first appearance for Norwich City this season in a 2-1 Premier League 2 win against Newcastle United's U23s on Friday afternoon at Colney.

Oliveira and compatriot Ivo Pinto were over-age players for Matty Gill's development squad against the Magpies, at City's training base.

Pinto is on the comeback trail from a hamstring injury but Oliveira had not featured for the club since the final day of last season's Championship campaign.

The Portugal international failed to land a move away in the summer transfer window and head coach Daniel Farke reiterated last week he is still not part of his first team plans.

Oliveira was paired in tandem with Irish youngster Adam Idah and cancelled out Adam Wilson's opener with a clinical first half strike from the edge of the area.

The striker was denied a second shortly after when Freddie Woodman kept out his effort but the Portuguese duo combined in the 78th minute to earn the points, when Oliveira headed home Pinto's cross.

Farke confirmed earlier in the day, at his pre-match press call ahead of the Championship trip to QPR, fit-again Pinto was not in his thoughts for this weekend but could feature at Wycombe in the League Cup.
