John Ruddy is ready for one more crack at the Premier League after a starring role in Wolves’ Championship title success.

The former England keeper faced an uncertain future when he was released by Norwich City this time last year, along with Ryan Bennett, but the duo were part of a Wolves’ squad who romped to the big time.

Ruddy was named in the Championship team-of-the-year and kept the most clean sheets in the second tier to clinch a third career promotion.

“The potential the club’s got with the owners, the manager and the players we’ve got already, if we can make good additions to the squad who knows what we can do next year,” said the 31-year-old.

“Obviously the club as a whole has the ability to sign some very good players. We’ve already got a fantastic mix in the squad so anything we can add on top of that is going to be massive.

“We know what the Premier League’s about.

“Although there are eight fewer games it’s even more intense.”

Ruddy and Bennett were part of a backline that provided the platform for Wolves’ attacking players to cause havoc in finishing nine points clear of Cardiff City.

“Credit goes to the boys in front of me, not just the back five or the back three, it starts from the front,” Ruddy said, speaking to the Express and Star earlier this month.

“We’re well drilled, we’re disciplined and we’re consistent in the way we play.

“On a personal note it’s a great accolade (to keep so many clean sheets) but I can’t take anything away from the rest of the team.

“This is my third time being promoted and the first time as a champion which puts the icing on the cake.

“It was a long, hard, relentless season but we’ve been a credit to ourselves. I don’t think there’s a secret. Everyone knows their roles. That’s a massive factor in having the consistency you need.”
