Highly-rated youngster Ben Godfrey has signed a new City deal keeping him at Carrow Road until 2022.

Reports last week suggested the Canaries were in talks to extend the 20-year-old’s current deal and Godfrey is happy to commit his future to the club.

“I’m buzzing and absolutely delighted,” he said.

“It’s a club that I’ve enjoyed being at since I signed when I was 18. To extend my time here, it’s something I’m really happy about.

“It’s been a good pre-season so far. Obviously I spent last year away so it was always nice to come back and see my teammates and the boss again.

“It’s been hard work as well but I’m looking forward to the season starting now and seeing what we can do.”

Godfrey impressed again in a centre back role during Wednesday’s 3-1 friendly win at Luton and head coach Daniel Farke feels he will be a key figure this campaign.

“Ben had a really good loan spell and we were convinced that he would be good when he came back,” he said, speaking to the club’s official site.

“In pre-season so far, he’s been there with some really good performances and it’s been important that he’s been able to play quite a few positions.

“He’s another good option for us and I’m very pleased with Ben.

“There’s no time for him to have another loan spell because we are convinced he can help us in the short-term and long-term.”
